To get people-friendly policies implemented is Bilga’s agenda

For leftist candidate of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) from Nakodar Santokh Singh Bilga (51), reaching out party’s message to people is more important than winning the Assembly elections.

To let residents of the state know about their policies and strategies, he has already started a door-to-door campaign as he did not believe in organising big rallies, which, as per him, is a waste of time, money and energy.

“I have been going door to door to let people know about policies of the Left Front for various sections of society, including small shopkeepers, small farmers, farm labourers and other labourers,” he said.

Santokh said the party had separate policies for different people in the state. Yet the prime agenda was to get pro-people policies implemented.

“When I visit shopkeepers for seeking votes, I tell them, that corporate retail stores had been eating away the small shopkeepers. Hence, if my party comes to power, we will work on diminishing the foreign investment in the retail sector to strengthen the small businesses and shopkeepers,” he said.

“Besides I have go to small farmers with our plans of getting the Swaminathan Commission recommendations in the farming sector implemented. We want that the Central Government continue the system of purchase of all kinds of crop by government agencies to save the farming sector that has been in a crisis. We condemn the Centre Government’s move to scrap the 10 per cent import duty on wheat, which is an anti-farmer move,” said Santokh.

He said labourers, including farm workers, had been an oppressed lot since ages. No government had made any effort to improve their life. Gone are the days when people belonging to this category only needed atta and dal. They also deserves a quality life and they too want their children to be educated. We will work on making some policies to make their life better,” he said.
