Training programme for goat farmers

TALWARA (HOSHIARPUR): For the promotion of goat farming in Kandi area, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, will organise a training programme for goat farmers from July 2 to July 6 at Regional Research and Training Centre (RRTC), Talwara.

For the promotion of goat farming in Kandi area, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, will organise a training programme for goat farmers from July 2 to July 6 at Regional Research and Training Centre (RRTC), Talwara.

Dr RK Sharma, Director, RRTC, said improved goat production through better housing and feeding practices had direct implication on income of millions of households as well as national food security.

Goat farming is gaining popularity in Punjab as it can consume wide variety of feed resources, requires less investment, fast sexual maturity (9-12 months) and proliferation.

Apart from meat, goat milk remains in high demand. The demand increases many folds during outbreak of dengue and other viral diseases.

Goats are adapted to wide variety of climatic conditions. Goat has many specialties such as smaller size, easy handling, broad range of eatables and wider climatic adaptability.

He said interested candidates could contact Dr Gagandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, at Cell No 98762-85965 for more details. Boarding and lodging facilities are not available at the RRTC, Talwara. The candidates have to make their own arrangement for the same. — OC
