To celebrate Independence Day at Garhshankar, Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta along with over 1,000 youth and senior party men paid tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh at his maternal grandparents’ village Moranwali that falls in Garhshankar constituency.
Nimisha organised a Chetna March in the name of Bhagat Singh. She said that instead of routine programmes, it is important to revive the spirit of nationalism and dedication among the youth of the country.
A motorcycle and car rally lead by Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta started from Garshankar town to Moranwali village via Saila, Mahilpur and then Kot. Throughout the march, the youth were heard raising slogans of ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, teri soch te pehra deyange thok ke’ and ‘Hindustan Zindabad’.
The Congress spokesperson said it’s a matter of pride for the people of Garhshankar constituency that a national martyr was born to a daughter of the constituency. She said the initiative to build the memorial of Bhagat Singh and his mother was taken by Ambika Soni, the then Union Minister for Culture, who too has her roots in Hoshiarpur.
Nimisha Mehta said the needs and demands of the villagers will be taken up with the CM.
