Jalandhar, September 14

Two patients have died and a whopping 151 dengue positive cases have been reported in Kapurthala district since April.

In Jalandhar as well, 18 cases of dengue have been reported so far this year. Meanwhile, five cases were also reported from the Sukhjit Ashram, Kapurthala, and five inmates of the ashram were reported to the Kapurthala Civil Hospital.

One of the inmates of the ashram was referred to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital yesterday.

While Sunita Rani (53), a resident of Kesar Bagh in Kapurthala, died of Dengue at PIMS a few days ago, another resident of Kapurthala, Robin Singh, a student of class XI also died of dengue in the district.

However, Dr Harpreet Kahlon, Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala maintained that there had not been any death from dengue in the hospital. “The woman from Kesar Nagar died due to diabetes and it wasn’t a dengue case. The youth was an addict who died due to complications associated with addiction.”

The Civil Surgeon added, “As many as 151 patients have been reported in the district so far. However, all areas are under surveillance, we are keeping a close watch and the situation is completely under control. While a majority of the cases are being reported from the Deep Nagar area in the district, these have been caused due to the lack of care among residents to ensure that their homes and surroundings are kept dry. We are also carrying out hectic dry day drives to ensure that awareness and prevention measures against the disease can be spread.”

Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, Mohammed Tayyab, visited the Kapurthala Civil Hospital today to take stock of the state of dengue patients in the district. He also visited the children from Sukhjit Ashram admitted at the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala.

Of the five patients of the ashram admitted to the Civil Hospital, as many as two were admitted to the dengue ward and two in the medical ward. Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, so far, as many as 18 patients have tested positive in the district.
