Two youths killed in accidents in Hoshiarpur

HOSHIARPUR: Two persons were killed while three seriously injured in two separate road mishaps in Hoshiarpur last night.

Two persons were killed while three seriously injured in two separate road mishaps in Hoshiarpur last night.

In the first accident, a car driver was killed while trying to save a herd of stray cattle as the vehicle hit a tree on the roadside on the bank of Kandi canal near Ajjowal village last night.

A police officer, Satnam Singh, was driving the car along with the canal. The car collided with a roadside tree and all three occupants of the car — Satnam Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Rinku were seriously injured.

The injured were brought to the local Civil Hospital for treatment where the doctors referred them to another hospital. Kuldeep (48), a resident of Sataur village died late night during treatment at a private hospital.The body was handed over to family members after autopsy today.

Investigating officer ASI Vijay Kumar of Sadar police station, said the police had initiated proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC in the case.

The deceased was working as a commission agent in the Prabhat Chowk area. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

In another mishap at Tanda Urmar’s Baincha village, a youth died and his cousin was seriously injured when an unidentified vehicle hit their bike last night.

Jaspreet Singh of Baja Chakk village, along with his cousin (maternal aunt’s son) Paramjit Singh, a resident of Oharpur, had gone to attend a religious event in Kahri-Sahri village. The accident occurred at around 10 pm when both of them were returning home. Jaspreet died on the spot while Paramjit was seriously injured. He was undergoing treatment at the Tanda hospital. The Tanda police were investigating the matter.
