The Jalandhar Commissionerate now boasts of having five young and energetic women police officers. All have been posted on commanding positions in the city. They have donned the khakhi with the clear motto of delivering justice and justice only.

Accepting the challenge to give their best in policing, the women officers interacted with Jalandhar Tribune on the ‘International Women’s Day’ and deliberated on various issues of policing. Out of the five officers, three are of the IPS rank, while the other two are of the PPS cadre.

The officers are: ADCP, Traffic, Amneet Kondal, ADCP, Alka Meena, ACP, Headquarters, Deepika Singh, ACP, Traffic, Dr Richa Agnihotri, and Tamil Nadu-based Sudarvizhi attached with the Police Commissioner, Jalandhar.

Unreported crime is a serious issue: ADCP, Traffic, Amneet Kondal

Kondal earlier worked as a probationary officer in a bank. She is the daughter of Mohinder Singh, retired IRS officer of the 1977 batch, who served as the Commissioner of Income Tax. The ADCP believed that a crime which goes unreported is the most serious thing. There are tonnes of crimes against women which women don’t dare to report. Kondal believes that she has a good chemistry with Jalandhar people, as she has been serving here for long. She claimed that she delivered justice on all positions she held in the past and would deliver justice now also. She said now being ADCP, Traffic, she had planned certain initiatives to smoothen the traffic in the city. She said her recent initiative of installing permanent naka outside the bus stand proved fruitful, which has removed the traffic glut that was causing a huge nuisance. On Women’s Day, her message for women, “I believe in women empowerment. If I can become police officer, other women should also come forward to set a precedent in society. Women should feel independent and must choose the police field to contribute towards women empowerment.”

ACP, Traffic, Dr Richa Agnihotri
I fulfill my father’s dream, plans tonnes of initiative for better traffic management

Agnihotri, a daughter of senior cop SK Agnihotri, who served on senior position at In-service Training Centre, Kapurthala and got recently retired. Even her grand father Parkash was also in Punjab police. She did her BDS from Sunam before appearing for the examinations and joining the force. Already earned accolades by enforcing traffic rules and regulation in Ludhiana, she has now another chance to prove her mettle in bringing the jumbled city traffic to the level. Asked about the reason of joining force, she said, “It was my father’s dream who wanted to see me in donning khakhi as senior cop and I fulfilled his dream. Since my father and grand- father was in police force, I have a good learning experience of policing. My father is my mentor who still keeps on guiding me about better and policing” Richa adds. Being ACP traffic, she said, first she would launch an awareness drive to educate every section of society about traffic rules, and later special enforcement drive would be launched to take on the offenders. On Women’s Day, she urged the women to stand for a cause and be courageous to reach top of the world. Richa had also served in Jalandhar as SHO division four.

My aim is to always do best in policing

Earlier she served in Ludhiana Commissionerate as under training and now she has been given the charge of ACP Headquarters here. While deliberating on policing, she said, earlier there was a set thinking that police was not delivering justice, but now she believes that police is doing justice. Now police has become women friendly. With the entry of women police officers in the police department, women sensitization gets fillip. “I think if police department will have more women police officers, then women in the society will feel safe and will also come forward to report crime. In fact, women should come in every government department which will help in women empowerment and better management as well” Deepika says. Her father was retired Army officer due to which the charm of uniform was already in my family. “My father inculcated nice values in me, now it is my duty to contribute for the society and make a difference. I have set only one aim, I will do best wherever I’ll get posted in police department. Delivering justice will remain my only priority” ACP asserts.

Joined police to deliver instant justice

She wanted to join civil service and later on merit, she got selected as IPS. “Once I joined police, I started liking it. It is the only job through which we can deliver instant justice to people”she says. Sudarvizhi is now on six months training with police commissioner and she will soon be given the charge of SHO in the Jalandhar Commissionerate. She feels, there is a trend that people hardly come to police and they fear that police would not deliver them justice.”People come to the police at last resort only. Infact they should report the crime immediately after occurrence. It is also our duty to extend justice and I will definitely prove my mettle on that front” she asserted. Notably, she had played proactive role in the recent bus mishap in Lamba Pind chowk, which claimed child’s life, where people had laid siege to the nation highway.
