Youths create ruckus, police fire in air

PHAGWARA: The police opened fire in the air to nab a few drunken youths who were creating ruckus and even attempted to attack cops in the Gobindpura locality here late last night.

The police opened fire in the air to nab a few drunken youths who were creating ruckus and even attempted to attack cops in the Gobindpura locality here late last night.

The police succeeded to nab two of the accused, but their other accomplices managed to escape from the place. The accused allegedly broke open shutters of half a dozen shops and damaged rickshaws and motorcycles parked in the locality.

On a complaint lodged by Gobindpura resident Surinder Mohan, the police registered a case under Sections 452/342/ 427/506/ 148/149 of the IPC against the accused.

He alleged in his complaint that eight-10 youths with masked faces attacked his eight shops, including a ration depot and his house. He raised an alarm, making many of his neighbours coming to save him. They too pelted bricks at the assailants who then ran away. However, the assailants came again to the place after midnight with swords. Then he informed the police which rushed to the spot. They tried to damage a bike of the cops who then opened fire in the air and nabbed two accused. The arrested youths were identified as Navdeep and Gobind Lal of Nangal.
