The fate of the aspirants of the Jammu division, who were interviewed by the J&K State Sports Council, this year for appointment to different posts is hanging in the balance as the autonomous sports body is yet to declare the results.

Pertinently, the J&K State Sports Council had issued a notification in August 2016 regarding interviews of candidates for various posts, such as junior coach (48 posts), grounds in charge (14 posts), assistant storekeeper (14 posts), electrician and plumber (one post each). The interviews were to be held in November 2016, but were delayed.

Later, the interviews for the candidates of different districts of the Jammu division were held at Youth Hostel, Nagrota, from January 16 to 30, 2017, while interviews for the candidates of the Kashmir division and the Leh-Ladakh region were held from February 14 to March 14, 2017.

The candidates, who had appeared for the interview for the post of junior coach, expressed resentment over the “callous attitude” of the Sports Council for the delay in declaring the results. Around 15,000 applications were received by the council for the interviews of posts other than junior coaches.

“Even after conducting the interviews for the post of junior coaches in January this year, the selection list is yet to be declared,” one of the aspirants said. “As far as the 48 posts of junior coach are concerned, only 17 candidates having one-year diploma from the prestigious National Institute of Sports appeared for the interview because there were no other eligible candidates. Of the 17 interviewed candidates, 15 were from the Jammu division and two were from Kashmir,” the aspirant claimed.

“We have come to know that there is some tussle going on for the appointment for the posts of grounds in charge and storekeeper which has delayed the recruitment process,” another aspirant claimed.

Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary, Sports Council, said, “There is no confirmation yet about the release of the selection list of candidates who were interviewed for different posts.”
