Srinagar, May 26
The Army on Thursday said an infiltration bid was foiled in north Kashmir’s Nowgam sector killing two militants.
Defence sources said the movement of a group of infiltrators was detected on Thursday morning close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Tutmar Gali area of Nowgam sector in frontier Kupwara district, 120 km northwest of Srinagar, and the Army challenged them.
“The militants opened fire at the Army which was retaliated triggering a gun battle in which so far two militants have been killed,” they said. “The operation is still underway.”
The Army had cordoned off the area and blocked all exit points to ensure that militants didn’t manage to escape.
This is the first infiltration bid along the Nowgam sector this year that has been foiled by Army.
