At least three CRPF men were injured in a grenade attack by militants in Wanpoh area of Anantnag district, along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway today.
“Our men were taken by surprise by a close-range attack by militants,” Inspector General Operations of the CRPF in Kashmir Zulfiqar Hassan said during his visit to the spot. The attack was carried out around 2.15 pm.
There has been added presence of the CRPF and Army men in the sensitive Wanpoh area to contain protests that have rocked the Valley for over two months now, and to guard the national highway.
The militants hurled a hand grenade towards a group of paramilitary men and injured three of them, he added. All of them are in a stable condition. The injured were identified as Amit Kumar, Deepak Kumar and Pawan Kumar of the 90 Battalion. Hassan said the security forces had got vital leads.
Meanwhile, searches were conducted close to the LoC in Gurez sector after gunshots were heard this morning.
