Three youths were injured in clashes between aspirants and the police during a recruitment rally of the Territorial Army in the Talwara area of Reasi district today.

The rally, however, received an overwhelming response from locals as over 5,000 youths participated on the first day.

The chaos broke out at the Subsidiary Training Centre in Talwara as aspirants rushed towards the gate while those rejected and leaving the venue started pushing each other, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi, Sujit Kumar.

The police resorted to mild cane charge as aspirants clashed with them. Three persons Suresh Kumar, Jaswinder Singh and Sandeep Singh received minor injuries and were hospitalised, the SSP said.

“The situation was brought under control and the screening of aspirants is underway,” the SSP added.

Army officers said the open recruitment rally was being held in the Jammu region after a long time.

“This recruitment rally unfolds a golden opportunity for the youth of Reasi, Udhampur, Samba and Ramban for a bright career in the Army,” an Army officer said.

Army officers said the rally was organised for recruitment to the posts of soldier general duty, clerks, storekeeper technical, surveyor, tradesmen (chef community, masalchi, steward, housekeeper, hair dresser, washerman and drivers). They rally will end on May 9.
