Three militants were killed in an overnight gunfight in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The Army said the identity of the slain militants was being ascertained.
“We have recovered three weapons from the encounter site,” an Army spokesman said.
However, sources said the slain militants were local Hizbul Mujahideen cadres. They identified them as Adil Rishi, Masood Ahmed Shah and Abid Sheikh, all residents of Anantnag district.

The gun fight had erupted at Awoora village in Anantnag, 80 km from here, on Sunday evening when joint teams of Army, Police and CRPF cordoned off the village after receiving an input about the presence of militants.
“As soon as the village was cordoned off, militants opened fire triggering a gun fight,” a police officer said.
Protests and clashes erupted in many areas of Anantnag after the gun fight started on Sunday evening.
