63 girls bag top 10 positions in Class XII board exams

SRINAGAR: Girls have outshined boys in the Class XII board exams, the results of which were declared by the J&K Board of School Education on Thursday.

Girls have outshined boys in the Class XII board exams, the results of which were declared by the J&K Board of School Education on Thursday.

They have shown better performance in all streams. A total of 63 girls have shared the top 10 positions in science, arts, commerce and home science, while only 25 boys have been able to make it to the list of position holders.

The overall pass percentage of girls is 63.3 per cent. A total of 25,832 girls had appeared in the exams and 16,612 have passed. The pass percentage of boys is 58.92 per cent.

The overall pass percentage is 61 per cent, down from the last year’s 75 per cent, which was the highest in a decade.

In all streams, girls have secured more positions. In the science stream, 22 girls have shared the first 10 positions, while only 19 boys have made it to the list.

In the commerce stream, 17 girls have made it to the top 10, while only five boys have secured positions.

In the arts stream, among 15 students, who made it to the top 10, only one is a boy. In the home science stream, the first 10 positions have been secured by girls.

Girls have shown better performance this year.

In the science stream, 81 per cent girls qualified the exams, while only 75 per cent boys have passed.

The pass percentage of girls is 83 per cent and that of boys is 67.62 per cent in the commerce stream.

In the arts stream, the pass percentage of girls and boys is 54.61 per cent and 42 per cent, respectively.

The top three positions in arts and home science have been bagged by girls.

The top three positions in commerce have been shared by 10 students, including eight girls and two boys.

Two boys secured the first two positions while one girl from Sopore secured the third position in the science stream.

Education Minister congratulates students

Srinagar: Minister for Education Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has congratulated the students who qualified the Class XII exams. “The declaration of the results in a short period and brilliant success of the students in the Class XII results is due to the collective efforts of various sections of the department,” the minister said.
