753 Army men killed in 8 years in J&K

NEW DELHI: A total of 753 Army personnel were killed in the last eight years in Operation Rakshak, the counter-insurgency operation of the Army in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

A total of 753 Army personnel were killed in the last eight years in Operation Rakshak, the counter-insurgency operation of the Army in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, in a written reply, told the Lok Sabha that “since 2007, a total of 753 Army personnel have been martyred during Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The worst period for the Army in the state was 2007 when it lost 172 personnel, the Defence Minister said.

The casualty figure dipped to 73 in 2009, but rose to 107 in 2010. In 2013 and 2014, the figure stood at 51 and 54, respectively.

In 2015, seven Army personnel lost their lives till April 20, according to the written reply. — TNS
