Jammu, July 6

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today said the BJP would not compromise on national interests in J&K and pull out of the PDP-led government “if it feels that it has become difficult to continue in the ruling coalition government”.

“Our coalition in J&K is not an ideological alliance, but an alliance of governance. No doubt problems arise because we have our own agenda and the coalition partner has a different agenda. The day the BJP feels that it has become difficult to continue in the coalition, we will opt out of the government,” Nirmal Singh said while addressing a function after unveiling the statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said an announcement for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu would be made “very soon” and questioned the silence on the part of the National Conference and the Congress on the dilution of the AIIMS project by the UPA government in 2004.

The Deputy Chief Minister had assured the Coordination Committee — an amalgam of around 50 organisations spearheading the agitation for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu — that a formal announcement on the establishment of AIIMS would be made by July 20.

The Coordination Committee had suspended its agitation and started a  mass mobilisation programme to give new impetus to its struggle in case the Centre failed to make an announcement on AIIMS by July 20.
