Jammu: A freshers’ party was organised to welcome the new entrants at Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana.



MHAC School celebrated the birth anniversary of the erstwhile Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh on Friday. More than 100 students and teachers from Samaj Kalyan Kendra and Ram Chander Memorial Trust School were invited to take part in the celebrations. Principal Sween Puri and dignitaries garlanded the statue and paid tributes. tns

NSS Day celebrated

The NSS Day was celebrated at Government Degree College, Akhnoor. Anuradha from J&K State Pollution Control Board, was the chief guest. Principal Dr Anil Gupta apprised the NSS volunteers of the necessity of social work. Anuradha talked about source waste management and also demonstrated how to segregate the waste management and its purification and composing, which would lead to the purification of the environment. tns

A freshers’ party was organised to welcome the new entrants at Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana. The programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp. A cultural programme was presented by students. Samar Dev Singh Charak, secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, was the chief guest. TNS

Two ASIs hurt

Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors of police were injured, one of them seriously, when people threw stones at a police party in Nagrota village during an anti-encroachment drive on Friday morning. Sources said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had been facing hurdles in widening and blacktopping various roads in Rajouri as people had encroached upon BRO land (defence land) at 700 places in the district. The widening and blacktopping of the 54-km Rajouri-Budhal road was started about six years ago but has not been completed yet due to encroachments by people.

Six injured in accident 

Six people were critically injured in the Baggar area of Doda district on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge. Passersby claimed that despite repeated calls on 100, they got no help. Ultimately, locals and commuters rescued the injured. The incident took place around 3 pm when an Alto car was on its way from Assar to Batote. It fell 300 feet down and landed at Karmail village on the Jammu-Kishtwar road.

National Conference (NC) leaders have expressed shock over the death of party block president, Mankote, Khadam Hussain. NC leadership Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have shared their messages of condolence with the bereaved family. NC MLA from Mendhar Javed Rana and other leaders visited the bereaved family on Thursday evening and expressed their condolences.
