City boy wins medals   

Jammu: Tathagat Chandra Shekhar, a student of Army Public School, Sunjuwan, won five gold medals in the international olympiad competition. He secured first rank in all subjects. Shekhar's mother is a psychologist and his father is working at the University of Jammu as a faculty member in the PG Department of Psychology. Principal of the school and staff members appreciated his achievement.TNS

Doda, Kishtwar shut over Kathua case  

Doda: Seeking justice for the eight-year-old victim in Kathua case, a partial shutdown was observed in Doda and Kishtwar districts on Friday. Shops, business establishments, schools and private institutions remained closed in the districts. However, government offices remained open. Despite heavy rain, people led massive protests in different parts of the districts. OC

Harsh Dev slams govt over Kathua ‘conspiracy’

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party on Friday said the PDP-BJP government was totally incompetent as it had failed to unearth the ‘international conspiracy angle’ in the Kathua rape-murder case. During a press conference on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said he smelt a deeper conspiracy at the national and international level to polarise the highly sensitive state after the Kathua incident. Panthers Party chairman Harsh Dev Singh said: “Dr (Nirmal) Singh described the Rasana episode as part of an international conspiracy. Then why has the state government failed to unearth the plot?” Harsh Dev asked. TNS

Police suspend Internet in Rajouri 

Jammu: The police on Friday suspended Internet services in Rajouri district following the death of a teenage boy. Chander Prakash of Keri Khwas village got into a fight with Mohammed Latief on Thursday and both were injured. Prakash became unconscious after reaching home. He died on the way to hospital, the police said. An SIT has been constituted. Meanwhile, the police are taking steps to prevent any communal flare-up owing to the incident. PTI 

Rana inaugurates physiotherapy centre  

Jammu: Lauding the philanthropic efforts in the health sector, National Conference provincial president Devender Singh Rana on Friday said voluntary efforts would go a long way in improving the health scenario, especially in areas lacking facilities. “Time has come when a holistic approach is needed towards aged care services,” Rana said while inaugurating a physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre at Sidhra Bypass, on the outskirts of Jammu. He appreciated the offer of the newly launched facility with regard to free physiotherapy and cataract surgeries at the centre to patients living below the poverty line (BPL) and wished the management grand success in its philanthropic efforts.
