Class XII results out: Girls clinch top positions in all streams

JAMMU: Girls have once again proved their supremacy over boys by clinching top positions in all four streams — science, commerce, arts and home science — in the higher secondary, part II (Class XII), annual examination (summer zone) of the Jammu province, the results of which were declared by the J&K State Board of School Education this evening.

Girls have once again proved their supremacy over boys by clinching top positions in all four streams — science, commerce, arts and home science — in the higher secondary, part II (Class XII), annual examination (summer zone) of the Jammu province, the results of which were declared by the J&K State Board of School Education this evening.

In the science stream, Muskan Bhan of St Xavier Convent Higher Secondary School, Barnai, and Vijay Lakshmi of Brahmrishi Bawra Shati Vidya Peeth Higher Secondary School, Udhampur, shared the first position by securing 97.8 per cent (489 marks out of 500).

The second position was secured by Prabh Simran Kour of Christ Higher Secondary School, Poonch, with 97.2 per cent marks. The cut-throat competition in the science stream could be gauged from the fact that as many as 68 students shared first 10 positions. As many as 21 students shared the 10th position while the ninth position was shared by 13 students. A total of 11 students shared the eighth position.

In the commerce stream, Palak Gupta of Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, bagged the top honours by securing 96.8 per cent marks (484/500), followed by Damandeep Singh of Mother India Senior Secondary School, RS Pura, who got 96.4 per cent marks.

The third position was secured by Shivani Verma of Oriental Academy, Afghan Mohalla, Jammu, with 95.8 per cent marks, while Surbhi Gupta of the same school secured fourth position with 95.6 per cent marks. The seventh position was shared by two students in the commerce stream.

In the arts stream, Chetna, a student of Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, secured the first position with 95.4 per cent marks. Syed Aisha Mushtaq of Global Convent Higher Secondary School, Channi Rama, claimed the second position with 95.2 per cent marks, whereas the third position was secured by Shriya Aggarwal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi, with 94.8 per cent marks.

The fifth and seventh position was shared by two students, while three students shared the 10th position in the arts stream.

In the home science stream, the top seven positions were secured by students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi. Iqra Banoo secured the first position with 72.6 per cent marks (363/500). The second position was secured by Pragati Jain with 65.8 per cent marks.

A total of 42,234 aspirants appeared in the examination, out of which 20,849 were declared pass, while 3,697 fail. The overall pass percentage stood at 49 per cent. There were a total of 5,681 distinctions, followed by 8,311 first divisions. 17,688 students got re-appear in the annual examination of the summer zone.

Prof Zahoor Ahmad Chat, Chairman, JKBOSE, while commenting on the results admitted that there was a slight improvement in the overall pass percentage. “The result is somewhat better as compared to the previous result, but still there is a scope for improvement,” BOSE Chairman told The Tribune.
