CM for promoting tourism in Kargil

SRINAGAR: Maintaining that the nature has bestowed Kargil with unique features, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said she had directed the government to promote the area as a tourism destination.

Maintaining that the nature has bestowed Kargil with unique features, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said she had directed the government to promote the area as a tourism destination.

The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation of two road projects at Kargil today. She said the area had some of the world’s tallest Buddhist icons which once connected to the Buddhist tourist circuit would increase the tourist footfall by a great measure.

Similarly, the Chief Minister said villages, like Bimbut, Hundurman and other places, could be developed under the border tourism and also the memorials of Kargil war could attract a large number of visitors. She added that sports such as river rafting and polo had a great scope to be developed and promoted.

Delegations meet Mehbooba 

Several deputations met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is on a three-day visit to the Ladakh region, in Kargil on Sunday. The members of these deputations thanked the Chief Minister for getting the much-awaited Zojila tunnel sanctioned by the Central government. A deputation of the Congress, led by MLA Asgar Karbalai, demanded introduction of air service to Kargil, restoration of telephone connectivity, addition of more streams on the satellite campus of Kashmir University and filling the vacant posts of doctors and paramedics in the district, an official spokesman said.
