Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today again visited the site of Maharaja Hari Singh Park here to personally take stock of the follow-up action on the directions issued by her during her previous visit to the area last week.

During her visit to the park site on June 24, the Chief Minister had ordered an immediate clearing of the garbage around the Tawi riverbed which is adjacent to the park site.

Jammu Development Authority (JDA) Vice-Chairman Mubarak Singh informed the Chief Minister that a major portion of the garbage had been cleared from the area and the men and machinery were on the job to make the whole patch of the river near the park site garbage-free.

She asked the JDA Vice-Chairman to ensure that the area around park site was clean and no garbage was dumped there.

On enquiring about the progress of the work on the park, the Chief Minister was told that it would be completed within six months. Besides a walking track, the park will have a coffee shop-cum-library and special ladies corner.

“I want the work on the park to be completed at the earliest,” she said.

The Vice-Chairman informed the Chief Minister that Rs 75 lakh was being spent on earth-filling and landscaping of the park, including turfing, laying of flower beds and plantation.

Pertinently, the Chief Minister during her earlier visit to the park site on June 24 had expressed dismay over the heaps of garbage lying unattended on the Tawi riverbed.

Meanwhile, she deputed her Principal Secretary Navin Kumar Choudhary to Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, to personally take stock of the directions given by her to the GMCH principal on her visit to the hospital on June 24 regarding cleanliness and maintenance of the hospital premises.

During her visit, she had expressed dismay over the unattended garbage lying on the hospital premises.

The Principal Secretary was asked to compile an action taken report on the follow-up action taken by the GMCH authorities on the directions of the Chief Minister regarding maintenance of the GMCH premises.
