Commonwealth of Learning appoints CEMCA director

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has appointed Shahid Rasool as the director, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre of Asia (CEMCA).

Shahid is the first from the state to whom COL has offered a directorship. He will join his new assignment in first week of June.

CEMCA was established by COL as a regional centre to promote meaningful, relevant and appropriate use of media and technology to serve the educational and training needs of the Commonwealth member states of Asia.

Located in New Delhi, CEMCA works in eight Commonwealth countries of Asia, which include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore.

President and chief executive officer, Commonwealth of Learning, in the appointment offer mentioned that Dr Rasool would gain commonwealth wide experience to promote the meaningful, relevant and appropriate use of media and technology to serve the educational and training needs of the commonwealth member states of Asia.

Shahid said that the new position would allow him to contribute at a much higher level and at the same time help him gain further knowledge, experience and exposure at international level.

“I see this as an opportunity to practically understand the emerging trends in media and use of technology for education in Commonwealth and in the developed world,” Shahid said.

Dr Shahid Rasool is presently working as director, Educational Multimedia Research Centre, University of Kashmir. He is the recipient of many awards.
