4 cops, 2 inmates hurt in Baramulla jail clash

SRINAGAR: Two jail inmates and four policemen were injured in a clash inside District Jail, Baramulla, the police said.

Two jail inmates and four policemen were injured in a clash inside District Jail, Baramulla, the police said.

Director General of Police (DGP), Prisons, J&K, SK Mishra said the situation had been brought under control.

“Some prisoners went berserk today and damaged jail property, including surveillance cameras. They have been put back into barracks,” the DGP, Prisons, said.

A police spokesman in Srinagar said the Assistant Superintendent, District Jail, Baramulla, said that some jail inmates created a law and order problem on the jail premises over some administrative issue and also attacked the jail staff.

The spokesman said a police party was sent to Baramulla jail, adding that the policemen were attacked by some jail inmates with stones, bricks and lathis.

“Some jail inmates damaged the wall of the jail by removing bricks from it and used them to attack policemen. They also tried to set on fire the main gate of the jail. The fire was extinguished with the help of the fire services,” the spokesman said. A case has been registered.
