Farmers get tips on advancements in medicinal, aromatic plants’ cultivation

JAMMU: A national seminar-cum-exhibition on Kisan Mela, entrepreneurship programme and flower show was organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, at Chatha Farm today.

A national seminar-cum-exhibition on Kisan Mela, entrepreneurship programme and flower show was organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, at Chatha Farm today.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the Department of Floriculture, Jammu. Director, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Dr Ram Vishwakarma informed the audience about the aims and objectives of the programme.

He added that the event was organised annually to introduce the latest advancements in the area of medicinal and aromatic plants aiming at improving the socioeconomic conditions of the state in general and farming community/growers in particular.

Earlier, the national seminar-cum-exhibition on Kisan Mela, entrepreneurship programme and flower show was inaugurated by Chief Guest Parvez Dewan, Adviser to Governor.

In his address, Dewan stressed that there was a need for adopting improved varieties of cash crops in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants to increase the yield and quality of the material. He lauded the efforts of the CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, in promoting the floriculture and cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in the country.

A detailed presentation and demonstration were also held for farmers and progressive growers in the area of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, intercropping of medicinal and aromatic plants in agriculture crops.

Presentation and demonstrations were given by Dr Suresh Chandra, Dr Narendra Kumar, Dr Parvaiz Qazi, Dr HP Singh, Dr Rakesh Kumar, Dr OP Sharma, Binoy Kumar and Govind Sharma.
