J&K to be promoted as golfing destination: Tourism Secretary

JAMMU: The government is planning to open a golf academy in Jammu and Srinagar to promote the sport in the state and advertise J&K as a golfing destination.

The government is planning to open a golf academy in Jammu and Srinagar to promote the sport in the state and advertise J&K as a golfing destination.

Secretary, Tourism, Farooq Ahmed Shah held a meeting with members of the Jammu and Kashmir Golf Association to discuss and plan the future course of action for holding tournaments and other events. He promised the association members all help to start the training classes and courses for the interested youngsters to utilise their unexplored sports potential.

“We propose to open golf academies in Jammu and Srinagar for training and producing standard golfers who can compete at the national and international level. People should give their suggestions which can be taken up with the Chief Minister,” said Shah.

The Tourism Secretary, while interacting with the delegation, said the government was keen to promote the state as an ideal golfing destination, equipped with international standard golf infrastructure in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Jammu and in Leh as well.

The Secretary said that MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events) and golf would be clubbed as a niche segment to attract high-spending golf and conference tourists and delegates from all over the country and abroad.
