Jammu, July 6

The present parking situation on the University of Jammu campus leaves much to be desired.

The haphazard parking of vehicles has become the order of the day with the authorities turning a blind eye towards the issue. The sprawling campus is marked with vehicles that can be found “anywhere and everywhere” as there is no system to ensure that space is available to park cars and two-wheelers.

“The present structure of parking doesn't make any sense and there is no demarcation of parking space for staff, students and visitors. Students have raised the issue several times with the JU administration, but no action has been taken to sort out the problem,” said Sahil Sharma, a university student.

Cars of the university staff and faculty could be found in front of the main office building, leaving little space for the visitors to pass through. The two-wheelers and four-wheelers are parked together, making it look like a complete mess.

Admitting that the university faces space problem, Dean, Students Welfare, Prof Pankaj Srivastava said students preferred to come on their own vehicles these days, “We have limited parking space and the number of vehicles have increased as the students do not opt for public transport,” said Srivastava.

Presently, the university administration has no plans to solve the parking problem. “The vehicles are parked in a haphazard manner, which makes it extremely difficult to get the vehicle out of the parking. There should be a supervisor to make sure the vehicles are parked orderly,” said Kiran Mehta, MA student.
