Jammu, April 26

Kamlesh Kumar Gandhi, who had participated in 30 national and international camps in different parts of the country, has once again been chosen by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi to attend the national painters’ camp at Dehradun.

Gandhi’s paintings reflect vibrant colours of nature and merge the boundaries of past and present on canvas. For a visitor, it’s a refreshing deviation from the so-called synthetic culture in the art world.

A self-taught artist who chose painting after going through a rough phase in his professional life has today emerged as one of the finest painters in the country, whose works adore the walls of prominent art galleries in the world.

Gandhi’s only regret is that people in Jammu and Kashmir have little awareness about art and the government has not done much to promote painters who have been forced to look towards other states in the country for recognition and promotional activities.

Gandhi has 15 solo shows to his credit in India and abroad.
