Prominent social activists have called for a comprehensive documentation of the 1947 massacre by Pakistan-supported tribal hordes in Jammu and Kashmir and areas occupied by them to make future generations aware about the dark chapter in the history of the state.
They have also called for a proper historical account of the reason behind the exodus of minority Hindus from the Valley in 1990 after the eruption of armed insurgency.
The issue was raised during an event organised by a social organisation, Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra, to pay tributes to the victims of the Kashmir conflict and militancy since the past 70 years.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr KN Pandita threw light on the bravery of Brig Rajinder Singh and termed him the saviour of the people of Kashmir.
“The real history of massacres and brutality is still not known to a common man. It is the duty of the present generation to dig the past and present the real picture of what happened seven decades ago,” said Dr Pandita.
While quoting an example of the 1947 Mirpur Kotli massacre, social activist Yuvraj Gupta spoke at length about the designs of Pakistan-backed tribal invaders who killed thousands of people.
Minister of State for Transport Sunil Sharma said besides delivering lectures, writing books and organising seminars to pay tributes to the martyrs, it was important that the sinister designs of Pakistan and separatists were exposed.
