A 24-year-old youth from Sazan village of Doda district, Abid Hussain Butt, has joined the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in the Kashmir valley.

The news has sent shock waves in security circles and among public in Doda where militancy was wiped out a few years ago.

At present, not even a single militant is active in this mountainous district.

Abid, son of Wali Butt, of Sazan village, joined the LeT on July 1. The news of his joining the militant outfit emerged after his gun-wielding picture was posted on the social media.

“We came across the news through the social media and have started investigation. We are trying to find out the circumstances which led to his joining militant ranks,” Muhammad Shabir, SSP, Doda, told The Tribune.

“We have talked to his family who are in state of shock. The youth had left his home on June 30 and told his family that he was going to Bhaderwah for picnic but he didn’t return,” the SSP said.
