Students at Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today presented their artwork on the concluding day of Digital India Initiative week.

The Digital India campaign was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to integrate the government departments and the people of India. It aims at ensuring government services are made available to citizens electronically by reducing paperwork. From July 1-7, Digital India Initiative week was observed across universities in the country.

The university students presented their ideas in form of paintings and posters.

“We are convinced after seeing the work of students that they have a potential to go far and think about the progress of the nation. The week has ended today but our real work begins now which is of implementation. We have only sensitised ourselves in this week about the importance of technology,” said an official of CUK.

A series of events were held in the past one week as a part of awareness on Digital India. The university held quiz programmes. Besides, guest lectures from information technology experts laid stress on the need of ICTs in the universities to reduce the procedures.

University Registrar Afzal Zargar asked the students to carry forward the mission of Digital India. “The Digital India initiative will provide enormous job opportunities to scores of people in the IT sector and will also give an opportunity to the enthusiastic youth to start their own entrepreneurship unit in the arena of information technology,” the official said while complimenting the students who participated in the poster competition.

“We are facing some challenges in the implementation but we have already taken some initiatives on e-governance like the biometric system. We will be providing more facilities to the students in near future which are in progress,” he added.

The students who secured top three positions in the event were given certificates and cash prize. A total of 26 students took part in the event.
