Ex-ministers discuss peace initiatives with Governor

Jammu, April 17

Formers ministers, an ex-legislator and Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan here on Tuesday.

Jugal Kishore Sharma, former minister, discussed various issues relating to people’s welfare and the steps required to be taken for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state. The Governor stressed the crucial importance of peace being urgently restored in the state and urged Jugal Kishore Sharma to sustain his initiatives in this regard.

Manohar Lal Sharma, former minister, also called on the Governor and informed him about his views regarding certain important matters concerning the future growth and development of the state. The Governor urged him to continue his endeavours for promoting communal harmony. Ashok Kumar, former MLA, called on the Governor and requested him to intervene in various important matters of public interest. He demanded urgent release of funds for various infrastructural projects; uninterrupted electricity supply; safe drinking water supply; strengthening of healthcare institutions and filling up of vacant posts in health centres and educational institutions ; and direct elections for sarpanches in panchayat elections which must be held early. Promising support, the Governor advised Ashok Kumar to continue his endeavours for promoting people’s welfare in his district.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Iqbal Lone, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, called on the Governor. Referring to the serious difficulties which are faced by persons who suffer from varied disabilities, the Governor reiterated his concern about the need for the sustained attention which requires to be devoted for the effective management of the entire disability sector. The Governor recalled the decisions taken in his several earlier discussions with the Minister for Social Welfare and asked Lone to urgently review their implementation. — TNS
