Jammu, January 5

In continuation with its ongoing operation ‘Sanjeevani’ (a special drive against drugs), the Jammu police today recovered 7 kg of heroin worth Rs 35 crore from a Maruti car at Steel Bridge in Akhnoor and arrested five persons.

In a press conference today, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, SD Jamwal, said, “It is a good start of the New Year for our drive against drugs in Jammu as heroin worth Rs 35 crore has been recovered and five accused have been arrested, who were carrying it to supply it in neighbouring states.”

“The drugs were being brought from Afghanistan via Pakistan as the packets were stamped with ‘Pak-Afghan Nanghar 8888’ in Urdu,” he added.

According to the police, a Maruti car which was coming from Akhnoor towards Jammu was stopped by policemen at a ‘naka’. The driver tried to escape but was caught. During the search, two packets of heroin (one kg each) were recovered from them.
