Governor NN Vohra on Friday held an all-party meeting to discuss the overall scenario following the fall of the PDP-BJP coalition government after the BJP pulled out from the alliance on Tuesday.

The leaders of all major political parties put forth their views for improving the law and order situation on the ground and suggested various measures. They unanimously expressed their support to the Governor for restoring lasting peace in the state by taking into confidence all sections of society, an official spokesman said here on Friday evening.

PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had a separate meeting with the Governor earlier in the day.

Those who attended the meeting included National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah, Congress state president GA Mir, BJP leader Sat Sharma, PDP’s Mohammad Dilawar Mir, CPM state secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik, People’s Conference MLA Bashir Dar, J&K Democratic Party Nationalist leader Ghulam Hassan Mir, PDF leader Hakim Mohammad Yaseen and Panthers Party chairman Harsh Dev Singh.

The Governor held wide-ranging discussions on the issues related to internal security, law and order, development, educational problems, the forthcoming Amarnath yatra, besides the political scenario which has emerged after the imposition of Governor’s rule. He sought cooperation from all stakeholders for the restoration of peace and tranquillity in the state so as to enable speeding up of developmental activities. Vohra urged the leaders to join hands in bringing the state out of the present morass and motivating the youth to shun the path of violence and concentrating on their education and career.

Apart from raising the law and order issues, the leaders emphasised the need for the administration to work in a neutral, transparent and accountable manner.

Seeking completion of important pending developmental projects in different regions of the state, the leaders sought addressing of long-pending issues of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers, anganwari workers, contractual lecturers, strengthening of public delivery system and other pending issues to build confidence among the various sections of society.

Advisers to Governor BB Vyas and K Vijay Kumar, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary to Governor Umang Narula and Principal Secretary (Planning & Development) Rohit Kansal were also present in the meeting.

Welfare concerns raised too

  • Apart from raising the law and order issues, leaders sought completion of important pending developmental projects in different regions of the state.
  • They sought addressing of long-pending issues of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers, anganwari workers, contractual lecturers, strengthening of public delivery system and other pending issues to build confidence among the various sections of society.
