Governor inaugurates annual Red Cross Mela

Governor NN Vohra, president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, and First Lady Usha Vohra today inaugurated the annual Red Cross Mela at Gulshan Grounds here.

Appreciating the activities being carried out by the society, the Governor said the organisation had been providing prompt help during exigencies. He emphasised the importance of fairs and similar events being organised at frequent intervals by the District and Regional Red Cross Societies.

Stressing the importance of providing first-aid training to the volunteers of the society, Vohra observed that Red Cross members were among the first to reach the site of any disaster and their promptness in giving adequate first aid had saved many lives. Noting that the Red Cross Society had provided first-aid training to drivers and conductors in the public transport sector in the past years, the Governor said now on, students would also be provided training in this direction.

He appreciated the efforts of Hemant Kumar Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and the Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu region, for organising the fair.
