Governor reviews Amarnath yatra arrangements at Sheshnag camp

Governor NN Vohra, chairman, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, visited the Sheshnag yatra camp on Saturday and reviewed the security and other arrangements in place for the pilgrims.

The Governor, accompanied by Umang Narula, CEO of the board, directed the camp director and other functionaries to ensure effective sanitary arrangements in toilet and bath units and cleaning of the camp areas.

Later, Vohra visited the Pahalgam helipad, where he inaugurated the newly constructed waiting hall for the yatris who will be travelling by helicopter to Panjtarni. He appreciated the Pahalgam Development Authority’s initiative to establish the facility that would be beneficial for all pilgrims and tourists visiting Pahalgam.

Thereafter, the Governor, accompanied by the CEO, the additional CEO of the board and other senior civil and police officers, proceeded by road to Chandanwari and inspected the ongoing works to upgrade the Chandanwari access control gate. He also visited the area where langars, shops and other facilities are being set up.

After Chandanwari, the Governor returned to the Nunwan yatra base camp and held a meeting with representatives of the Central Armed Police Forces, Army, police and all the divisional and district-level officers concerned.

He reviewed all important matters relating to the security of the pilgrims and the service providers. He specifically directed the DIG, South Kashmir, to ensure complete coordination between the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, Army and the Traffic Police and secure adequate advance information about all yatra-related vehicular movements from Banihal towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg.

The Governor also reviewed the status of water supply, electricity and ration, including cooking gas, firewood and medical facilities, at each of the camps visited by him. He directed the officers concerned to ensure that all toilet and bath units were effectively connected to waste disposal systems and foolproof arrangements were made for maintaining cleanliness of toilets at all times. He also directed them to ensure that regular doses of microbial consortium were added by the agency responsible for ensuring sanitation, the layout plan prepared for each camp location was strictly adhered to, and the tents for shops and langars were pitched strictly as per the layout plan with adequate fire gaps between them.
