Governor wants nursing college functional soon

JAMMU: To make the upcoming Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing at Kakryal in Reasi district operational and to see its early functioning as per the Nursing Council’s schedule, Governor NN Vohra today decided all pending matters at a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan here.

To make the upcoming Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing at Kakryal in Reasi district operational and to see its early functioning as per the Nursing Council’s schedule, Governor NN Vohra today decided all pending matters at a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan here.

The Governor is also the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

The meeting was attended by the Jammu-based members of the board, SS Bloeria, Ashok Bhan, HL Maini and Maj Gen (retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma.

Chief Executive Officer of the board Ajeet Kumar Sahu and Brigadier Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, also attended the meeting.

The meeting took decisions regarding completion of the required infrastructure, laboratories, library, hostel facilities, faculty and other staff, number of girls to be admitted in the first batch, fees to be charged and the admission criteria of the college, said a Raj Bhawan spokesperson.

The Governor directed Sahu and Brigadier Harjai to ensure that the upcoming college commenced functioning as per the Nursing Council’s schedule.

The meeting noted that the Nursing Council of India had approved the application for establishment of the college and its first session would start in August this year. The admission process will be set in motion in the first week of June and 60 girls will be selected on the basis of merit.

The shrine board CEO informed the meeting that the academic block, hostel, laboratories, library and other required facilities would be positioned by the first week of March 2016, while the faculty and other staff would also be placed well in time.

The Governor observed that the establishment of the college would be another milestone in the development of Katra and its surrounding areas and one more significant contribution of the shrine board towards the area.
