The government has formed a plan of action to address the grievances of government schools that had produced zero per cent results in board examinations.

In the recently declared class X results of Board of School Education (BOSE) in Kashmir Division, 22 schools gave zero per cent results.

However, the situation has improved as the number of government schools with zero per cent performance in 2014 was 27 while in 2013 the number was 37.

The Director of School Education, Kashmir, said the Department had intervened in the matter and had held a detailed review meeting with schools to analyse the reasons of their poor performance.

“We held a meeting and analysed the causes for the poor results in these schools. The teachers had their grievances, such as lack of infrastructure or permanent faculty, in which we are addressing so that these schools can improve,” said Shah Faesal.

But there are few schools which continued with the zero per cent results this year as well. The officials said it was a cause of concern for the Department and needed special attention.

“I have instructed the officials concerned to address their issues and we are taking other measures because these schools have to improve,” the official maintained.

Last year, according to the government policy, the students who failed to qualify the golden test (pre-exam) conducted in the respective schools were detained.

However, this year, no such policy was adopted, which became one of the causes for the poor performance of many government schools.

The number of students to appear for class X examinations this year was higher as compared to the previous year.
