SRINAGAR: Governor NN Vohra has complimented the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for handling difficult tasks in the past year and reiterated the need for use of minimum force while controlling mobs.

Governor NN Vohra has complimented the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for handling difficult tasks in the past year and reiterated the need for use of minimum force while controlling mobs.

The Governor was interacting with Zulfiquar Hassan, Inspector General of Police (Operations), CRPF, during a meeting here on Thursday. Hassan briefed the Governor about certain issues relating to the CRPF’s role and responsibility and outcome in the past year. In a separate meeting, the Governor and Minister for Public Works Department Naeem Akhter discussed various matters relating to the restoration of peace and normalcy and rapid economic development of the state.

Meanwhile, Nazeer Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, briefed the Governor about the progress in the academic, research, extension and infrastructural development arenas. He also apprised him about the outcome of the initiatives to rationalise available staff strength and the status of teaching and non-teaching vacancies in the university. Ahmad told the Governor that the Faculty of Forestry, Benihama, had been recognised by the Accreditation Board of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun, for five years. The Vice Chancellor also informed that 808 students had been admitted to undergraduate and postgraduate courses through the common entrance test.

Telling the Governor about nine teachers having been selected by the ICAR for the Best Teacher Award, the VC said the university had secured approval for 19 projects worth Rs 9.36 crore. The projects are to be funded by different external agencies.

The Governor was also informed that a herbal garden was established at the Faculty of Forestry, Benihama for germplasm conservation and experimentation. The VC also said the ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ programme was organised by all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), while the ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ campaign was held from September 15 to October 2 at all KVKs under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
