Health workers sent to Haryana for orientation

JAMMU: The state has started an orientation programme for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) outside J&K to give them exposure on how Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Act has been implemented in Haryana.

Jammu, July 9

The state has started an orientation programme for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) outside J&K to give them exposure on how Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Act has been implemented in Haryana.

These workers will also visit those villages in Haryana where ASHAs have been given the status of station house officers to save the girl child.

About 90 workers and supervisory cadre of J&K will see how other states are implementing the National Health Mission (NHM) to replicate it in the state. The group was flagged off by Dr Yashpal Sharma, NHM mission director.

“With this visit, the health workers will be motivated to work with efficiency towards achieving standards of excellence regarding the implementation of the ASHA programme in J&K,” he said.

Earlier, the workers were sent to Chhattisgarh to observe the practices there.

“During their stay, workers will observe the functioning of village health sanitation and nutrition committees set up by Haryana, home-based newborn care and the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions,” said Dr Sanjay Turkey, Chief Medical Officer, Jammu. — TNS
