Heavy rain lashes Kashmir Valley

SRINAGAR: Heavy rains lashed the Kashmir Valley on Monday, leading to water-logging at many places in Srinagar. The showers have inundated Srinagar’s roads as drains overflowed at many places.

Srinagar, April 27

Heavy rains lashed the Kashmir Valley on Monday, leading to water-logging at many places in Srinagar.

The showers have inundated Srinagar’s roads as drains overflowed at many places.

Portions of the Boulevard Road, which is thronged by tourists, were submerged under rain water. Official agencies frantically drained out the water.

The water-logging led to traffic jams on Srinagar’s roads.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was 10.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. The city received 14.3 mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m.

“See the condition of our city. Just one day’s rains and there is chaos all around,” moaned Nazir Ahmad, a teacher at Shri Pratap College.

“The problem has worsened since last year’s floods,” added Shabir Farash, a Srinagar resident.

In the old city, Khushal Sar Lake in Eidgah locality overflowed due to the incessant downpour.

The meteorological office forecast moderate to rather heavy rainfall at most places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Kupwara district received the highest rainfall of 31.4 mm during Sunday night.

Minimum temperature at Pahalgam and Gulmarg on Monday was 7.4 and 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Leh town in Ladakh region recorded a minimum of 8.4 degrees Celsius.

In Jammu region, Banihal town recorded a minimum temperature of 12.2 degrees Celsius, Katra town 20.5 degrees and Bhaderwah town 12.6 degrees. — IANS
