Srinagar, October 16

Expressing concern over the incidents of braid-chopping, the Hurriyat Conference in a statement today said it was an irony that the government and its police had failed to arrest the culprits and stop such incidents that had left the population, especially the women of Kashmir, in great distress and fear.

The spokesman said so far, the people of Kashmir had only witnessed tall claims and hollow assurances on the part of the police without any tangible progress in apprehending the elements involved in these incidents which had led many to believe that the culprits were being shielded.

“The height of oppression is that when people try to raise their voice against such incidents, the police use force on the peaceful protesters, which is highly condemnable,” it said. — TNS
