In Kupwara, search ops continue for second day

KUPWARA: A search operation launched jointly by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Halmatpora forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district following an encounter with militants continued for the second day on Friday.

A search operation launched jointly by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Halmatpora forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district following an encounter with militants continued for the second day on Friday.

The security forces are looking for the body of a militant who they believe was injured during the encounter. “The search continued throughout the day today in the forests area where the gunfight took place. The security forces are looking for body of a militant who was seriously wounded during the gunfight. The area has now been sanitised and cleared of unexploded devices,” a police official said.

Security forces on Thursday recovered a war-like stores from the gunfight site during the search. Three Army men, two policemen and five suspected Lashkar militants were killed in a 48-hour operation that ended on Wednesday.
