Insulate academics from politics, says Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Altaf Bukhari today said disturbing academics for serving political interests would lead the society into perpetual darkness and threaten the future of students.

Srinagar, October 18

Minister for Education Altaf Bukhari today said disturbing academics for serving political interests would lead the society into perpetual darkness and threaten the future of students.

He appealed to the leadership across the political spectrum to spare education from politics. “The precious time of students should not be wasted by involving them in any political activities. It is the time when students should focus on their studies and later on, they can decide their future course accordingly,” Bukhari said.

The Education Minister made these remarks during the annual day celebrations at SP Higher Secondary School, MA Road, here.

During the celebratory function, several cultural programmes, skits, solo songs, etc, were presented by various groups of students which were highly appreciated by the audience. The minister said these functions provided a platform to students where they could showcase their talent and also highlight issues confronting them.

He said the students of Kashmir were talented and they had proved their mettle at the national as well as international levels. — TNS
