The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has shifted the check-in counters to the new departure hall at the Jammu airport, which will start operating tomorrow.

In the continuous endeavour to improve passenger facilitation with state-of-the-art infrastructure at the airport, the AAI has renovated a new hall for departures, which was earlier used for arrivals. The new arrival hall was inaugurated in May last year.

The existing departure hall will also be renovated and merged with the new hall being commissioned now. Upon completion of the check-in formalities, the passengers shall be heading to the security hold area through the newly-built pre-embarkation security check area.

The first floor of the security hold area is also being opened to passengers, which consists of enough waiting space for about 400 passengers at a time.

Giving details, airport Director Devendra Kumar Gautam informed that best efforts were being made to provide maximum comfort and convenience to the passengers at the civil airport.

“The renovation/extension work of the terminal building is entering a critical phase wherein the construction work is to be carried out and simultaneously, the flight operations are also to be managed. Passengers may feel a bit of discomfort and space constraints in the new departure hall, so the passengers’ co-operation at this juncture is solicited till the renovation/expansion work is completed,” the director said.

In all, 20 check-in counters and two self check-in counters have been installed in the new departure area.

Reportedly, the Central Government had proposed the expansion of the airport to increase its landing surface and passenger-holding capacity from 200 to 700, for which Rs 70 crore were sanctioned in 2011.
