Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, called on Governor NN Vohra, Chancellor of the university, at Raj Bhawan here today.
He informed the Governor about the initiatives taken in various arenas in the past months and also briefed him about the problems which relate to the functioning of off-site campuses, particularly in regard to academic deficiencies.
The Governor urged Prof Sharma to maintain sustained focus on quality teaching and research activities and to particularly ensure that discipline was maintained in the main and off-site campuses of the university.
Lt Gen Suresh Sharma, Engineer-in-Chief, Army Headquarters, also called on the Governor and briefed him about the various engineering tasks in which his organisation was engaged in J&K, particularly in the context of the obtaining security challenges in the region.
Vohra lauded the role of the corps of engineers of the Army who are forever at the forefront for providing technical support to the Army operations.
A team of Red FM 91.9 led by Sidarth Arora, met the Governor and informed him that under its phase III expansion, Red FM had recently launched a new station in Jammu and shortly, the Srinagar and Leh stations would also be launched.
The team apprised the Governor about the brand positioning and the programming content of the Red FM which was localised, keeping in view the tradition and culture of Jammu and, besides, for encouraging people to speak about issues which concern them.
The Governor complimented the Red FM team for their initiative in Jammu and observed that radio was a very effective medium in generating awareness among people living in remote and difficult areas. He advised the Red FM team to raise widespread awareness among the people of all the flagship Central government schemes and also educate the masses about serious problems like drug menace and its evil effects, need for maintaining cleanliness, following traffic rules, etc.
