The Kashmir valley bustled with life with markets open across the region and roads jammed with traffic today, marking the fifth “full working day” during the past five months.

For a moment, everything seemed routine: the clogged roads, honking cars, shoppers, pedestrians and bustling markets. But scenes like these, which unfolded across the Kashmir valley today, are a rarity, happening occasionally since July 8 when a widespread unrest was sparked in the region.

The region has remained uninterruptedly shut since the July 8 gunfight in which militant commander Burhan Waniwas killed. The Kashmir valley resumed its full-day business for the first time in four months on November 19. Since then, the region has opened for full day on Saturdays and Sundays of past two weeks, today marking the fifth full-day of work.
