Kashmiris have rejected idea of Al-Qaida, IS: CRPF

Jammu, December 12

SN Shrivastava, Special Director General (DG), CRPF, J&K zone, said today that people of Kashmir had rejected the idea of Al-Qaida and ISIS and recruitment to militant organisations had come down drastically.

He said the positive approach of security forces in dealing with the situation had resulted in people rejecting militancy. “There is a good synergy between security forces and people, which has led to the elimination of militants in the Kashmir valley. We have a good control over the situation and the positive approach of the forces in dealing with the situation is boosting the morale of people. It has resulted in youths coming back to the mainstream,” said Shrivastava while talking to mediapersons here today.

He said the security forces had neutralised militant commanders, which had impacted militant recruitment as well. “We are ready to go the extra mile to ensure normalcy, but if some people take law in their hands, they will be dealt with strictly,” said the special DG. Commenting on the radicalisation of youth through social media, he said, “Pakistan has been trying to radicalise youth through social media, but has failed to succeed.”

Bonding through football

The CRPF, Jammu sector, is organising football tournaments in Jammu, Reasi, Ramban, Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar districts under the civic action programme.

Addressing a press conference in this regard, Shrivastava said the tournaments were being organised under the civic action programme to explore the hidden talent of youngsters of the region and also strengthen the bond between the public and the force. “Besides tackling law and order challenges, the CRPF has always provided help to people. The tournaments are being conducted on the same lines as was done in Kashmir,” he added. — TNS
