Kathua SP, six other officers transferred

JAMMU: The state Home Department headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday transferred Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kathua, with immediate effect.

The state Home Department headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday transferred Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kathua, with immediate effect.

He is among the seven SP-level officers shifted from their present place of posting.

According to an order issued by the state Home Department, Choudhary has been posted as AIG, CIV, Police Headquarters, against an available vacancy.

The transfer of the Kathua SP assumes significance against the backdrop of the Kathua rape-murder case. The role of the local police came under scanner after the Crime Branch arrested four policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, head constable and two SPOs, for their alleged involvement in the case.

Shridhar Patil, a 2010 batch IPS officer of the J&K cadre, presently serving as the Kulgam SP, has been transferred and posted as the new Kathua SSP.

Shailendra Kumar Mishra, Commandant, IR-2nd Battalion, has been transferred and posted as the Shopian SP vice Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, presently Shopian SP. Dinkar had been shifted as the Kupwara SP vice Shamsher Hussain.

Shamsher Hussain, Kupwara SSP, has been transferred and posted as Commandant, JKAP 13th Battalion, against the available vacancy. Harmeet Singh Mehta, Sopore SP, has been transferred as Kulgam SP vice Shridhar Patil. Javid Iqbal, SP, Police Control Room, Srinagar, has been posted as Sopore SP vice Harmeet Singh.
