Kupwara encounter enters 15th day as fresh firing breaks out

SRINAGAR: Security forces and militants exchange fire for the 15th consecutive day in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, although no casualty was reported.

 Srinagar, November 27

Security forces and militants exchange fire for the 15th consecutive day in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, although no casualty was reported.

"Fresh firing has been reported from the Manigah forests of Kupwara this morning between security forces and the militants holed up there," a police official said. The fire exchange lasted a little over 25 minutes.

A Colonel was killed in the operation, while another officer was among the several injured since security forces launched an operation to flush out a heavily armed large group of militants believed to be hiding in the Manigah forests on November 13. An unidentified militant has also killed in the constant exchange of fire.

Search is still ongoing, security forces said. — PTI
