Srinagar, May 5

The Leh-Srinagar highway will be re-opened for traffic on Friday after remaining closed for more than five months due to heavy snow.

Due to unprecedented snow for first time in last five years, clearing up the road on the Leh-Srinagar highway for traffic was a mammoth task this time.

The road usually opens around May 15, but this year, timely planning and sincere efforts have led to opening of the road on May 5.

The opening will facilitate movement of the people and also more importantly, restocking of commodities of daily use as the stocks have depleted over five months of closure from December last year. ANI
