Four militants were killed in a gunfight close to the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Friday. An Army trooper was also injured in the gunfight that is still underway.
The Army said a group of militants was intercepted on Friday morning by troops near the LoC in Boniyar area of Uri sector, nearly 80 kms from here. “As the group was challenged, the militants opened fire triggering an encounter. In the gunfight that is still on, four militant have been killed so far. A trooper was also injured in the initial gunfight."
An additional deployment of the troops has been rushed to the area to ensure that militants don’t manage to escape from the area.
This is the first infiltration attempt in Uri sector of Baramulla district this year, which has been foiled.
So far, the Army has foiled four infiltration attempts all in Kashmir's Kupwara district. Ten militants and three soldiers were killed in these gunfights.
